Sweetwater Union High School District to host inaugural Parent Symposium

On April 7, the Sweetwater Union High School District will be hosting its inaugural Parent Symposium at Rancho Del Rey Middle School.

This free event invites parents, students and members of the community to learn more about the District and its college readiness programs, social and emotional resources, tech support and parent leadership opportunities.

The District encourages parents to become active participants in their child’s learning to increase academic performance and engagement. The Sweetwater District offers a variety of opportunities for parents to volunteer in school events, clubs, sports, and committees.

The Parent Symposium will include a special appearance by award-winning Mexican-American writer Victor Villaseñor, who will deliver the keynote speech. Villaseñor is the author of Rain of Gold, Burro Genius, and Macho, which speak on the topics of diversity, culture, and language.

The Sweetwater District serves more than 9,300 English Learners and has established a District-level English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) for parents to participate in. Once a month, the committee meets to advise the local governing board on programs and services that will best support English Learners.

For more information about DELAC and Parent Symposium, contact the Office of Language Acquisition, State and Federal Programs at (619) 934-8300.

The Parent Symposium will be followed by a Community Resource Fair until 1 p.m. and provide light breakfast refreshments during the morning.  Rancho Del Rey Middle School is located on 1174 East J Street Chula Vista, CA 91910.
